The Philips Hue Go is a portable smart table lamp for anyone who wants white or coloured mood lighting they can carry from the desk to the living room, or out onto the terrace. Its rounded dome and silicone handle look good enough to leave on display.
In this Philips Hue Go review we look at what it brings to a desk or living space in Belgium: design, the battery life claimed by Philips Hue, Bluetooth or Hue Bridge control, and the cases where another lamp is a better fit.
The Hue Go has a simple shape: a white metal body, a rounded diffuser and a silicone handle for carrying. According to Philips Hue it stands 350 mm tall and 142 mm wide, a size that fits on a desk, a shelf or a bedside table.
It sits on a charging base that is included: place it on the base to charge, lift it to move it. No cable trailing while it is in use, which keeps a desk tidy.
You can control it with the button on the lamp or from the Hue app over Bluetooth, with no Wi-Fi and no Hue Bridge. If you already own a Hue Bridge, it joins your Zigbee setup with your scenes, schedules and voice control. Philips Hue lists compatibility with Alexa, Google Home and Apple Home, among others.
Philips Hue states up to 48 hours of battery life, depending on brightness settings. It is also rated for outdoor use (IP54), handy for a meal on the terrace or the balcony. At 370 lm in warm white it is ambient light, not task light.
According to Philips Hue: 370 lm at 2700 K and 530 lm at 4000 K, a white range of 2000 to 6500 K, plus colours. It weighs 1.277 kg and measures 350 × 142 × 142 mm. Rated lifespan is about 10 years, or 20,000 operating hours.
The battery is part of the smart battery system (INR18650 cell) and the charging base is included. Connectivity is Bluetooth and Zigbee, with a Hue Bridge for the advanced features.
It suits you if you want a cordless design accent lamp that changes mood through the day, or if you already have a Hue ecosystem to extend. It also works as a soft evening light next to a screen or a reading chair.
Skip it if you need a powerful, adjustable desk lamp for real work: see our guide to LED desk lamps instead. If you want no app at all, a simpler lamp will suit you better.
