A compact, flat 590 g Bluetooth speaker rated IP67, with up to 12 hours of battery life according to Bose, multipoint and PositionIQ, which tunes the sound to how it’s placed.
Avoid ifSkip it if you want deep bass that fills a large living room, if you’re after a Wi-Fi multiroom speaker, or if you want to charge your phone from it: it has no charge-out port.

1 / 3
The Bose SoundLink Flex (2nd Gen) is a flat, IP67-rated portable Bluetooth speaker for anyone who wants clean Bose sound in a 590 g package you can carry from the patio to your desk without a second thought. It suits people who mostly listen alone or with one other person, at home or outdoors.
This second generation keeps the understated design of the original and moves to Bluetooth 5.3, with multipoint, PositionIQ and the Bose app. Here’s our SoundLink Flex 2nd Gen review: its design, everyday use, key specs, and who it’s for (and who it isn’t).
The SoundLink Flex keeps its flat, rectangular shape at 20.14 × 9.04 × 5.23 cm, and it works standing on a shelf or lying on a table. Bose lists a mix of aluminium, fabric, nylon, plastic, silicone and steel: the metal front grille and silicone edges give it a low-key look that sits well on a tidy desk.
Black is the most versatile finish. The buttons are physical and grouped on top, including a programmable shortcut button. At 0.59 kg it disappears into a backpack, and the IP67 rating means you can leave it by the pool or in the sand without worrying.
Thanks to multipoint, the SoundLink Flex stays connected to two paired sources and switches to whichever one is playing, which is handy if you move between your work laptop and your phone. The built-in mic also lets you take hands-free calls with the play/pause button.
PositionIQ detects whether the speaker is upright, lying flat or hanging and adjusts the sound to match. In the Bose app you can set the EQ, the shortcut button and SimpleSync. Add a second SoundLink Flex (2nd Gen) and you can use Stereo or Party mode for a terrace or a barbecue.
According to Bose, battery life reaches up to 12 hours (measured at 50% volume, 20–25 °C, default EQ), and a full recharge takes 4 hours from a 5 V/1.5 A (7.5 W) USB-C source. There’s no wall adapter in the box, just a USB-C to USB-A cable.
For connectivity you get Bluetooth 5.3 with a nine-metre range according to Bose. The IP67 rating makes it dust-tight and water-resistant: Bose says it can survive 30 minutes of accidental immersion but isn’t designed for use underwater. It has no headphone jack, no Wi-Fi and no port for charging a phone.
The SoundLink Flex 2nd Gen is for you if you want a small, good-looking and rugged Bluetooth speaker that goes where you go: your home office, the bathroom, the balcony, holidays. Its flat shape and plain black finish also make it a speaker you can leave out without it cluttering the place.
It isn’t built to fill a big living room or power a party at full volume. A larger speaker such as the SoundLink Max or SoundLink Home will do that job better. And if you want a Wi-Fi speaker that joins a multiroom system, a Wi-Fi speaker is the better fit.
According to Bose, the SoundLink Flex (2nd Gen) lasts up to 12 hours, measured at 50% volume with the default EQ. A full recharge takes 4 hours from a 7.5 W USB-C source. Real-world battery life depends on volume, content and temperature.
Yes, it’s rated IP67, so it’s dust-tight and water-resistant. Bose says it can handle 30 minutes of accidental immersion, but it isn’t designed for use underwater.
Yes, two SoundLink Flex (2nd Gen) speakers can run in Stereo mode (left/right) or Party mode (the same audio on both). You set it up in the Bose app.
The 2nd Gen keeps the same flat shape and IP67 rating but moves to Bluetooth 5.3. It supports multipoint, adds a programmable shortcut button and works with the Bose app, where you can adjust the EQ.
You can find it on Amazon, including in black. Make sure the listing title says “2nd Gen” so you don’t end up with the older model.
